Candidates: What Do You Want?
Probably the most important question we ask our candidates (and that they can ask themselves) is "What Do You Want?" ...referring, of course to their careers. It is an all-too human trait to spend more time planning for today than planning the rest of one's career, but all candidates should stop and give this question a little quality time. Do you want a series of jobs or a career path? Surprisingly, the range of answers is significant. We've gotten answers ranging from "I am about to retire, so I want a job no more than ten minutes from my house" to "I'm not so concerned about the money, but I want a company that's getting into the newest technology."

Little wonder then, that we ask candidates this all-important question right up front.

So the question is: "what do YOU want from your career?

  • Where do you want to live?
  • What technology are you interested in?
  • What are your desires for advancement?
  • How much...or how little overtime can you handle?
  • When do you want to make a change? ie. Do you just "want a job?" or do you want to pursue the right situation for your future ...even if it means taking a little longer to find the right match?
  • What does your "support system" (family, friends, spouse, significant other) think you should do? Is this important to you?
  • What "considerations" or barriers do you have to seeking a better position?
  • What restrictions to your workstyle or lifestyle have you encountered that you would like to correct or avoid in the future?

These are just a few of the issues that we probe when we work with you to find the right match between you and the workplace environment that will suit your needs.

The good news is that we can help you regardless of your answers. We know the marketplace and what you can expect.

The LM&A Preferred Candidate Program™
You will probably hear from many recruiters throughout your career. All of them will have an approach that works for them, but what is often lacking is a program that works for YOU.

The Good News is that as a candidate in the information systems field, you are in an enviable position. Because of the burgeoning information systems field, your skills are in high demand. We know that ..and you probably know that, too.

But the So-so News is that you are not in a total "seller's market." Sure, "finding a job" should be relatively easy for you. But finding that Right Job is not an easy trick. This is where Lloyd, Martin and Associates comes in, and why we've created our Preferred Candidate Program.

Sure, we keep a database of your skills and experience like other recruiters, but we don't stop there. The difference is that we take the time to find out what YOU REALLY WANT. We recognize that you are NOT like everyone else: the combination of your career and lifestyle needs involve many factors. Our Preferred Candidate Program goes beyond merely capturing your skills and experience (anyone can create a database, right?). We go much further, and concurrently track the market and match what's out there with YOUR individual needs, wants, and desires:

  • Your Lifestyle Requirements
  • Considerations that Favor a Particular Position...or Not
  • Your Career Goals
  • Your Personal Growth Goals
  • Your Personal Needs or Restrictions
  • Income and Advancement Desires
  • Your Orientation Towards Technology: The Degree to Which You Want To Explore New Areas
  • Your Workstyle/Lifestyle Compatibility Requirements: Conditions, Hours, Travel, and Other Satisfactory Factors
  • Your Business/Corporate Environment Preferences

Our Preferred Candidate Program is unique, and the beauty of it is that it is a Win-Win for both you and your prospective employer.

Frequently Asked Questions:
How does the LM&A Preferred Candidate Program Works
Q: How do I get started?
A: You simply register with Lloyd, Martin and Associates, and we do the rest. Just click on the menu buttons above to take you to the registration area of this website.

Q: Is there a cost or commitment involved? Do I have to sign anything?
A: No. The LM&A Preferred Candidate Program is a process of gathering information and getting acquainted with you. Our employer clients pay any and all fees when career choice is finalized.

Q. Do I have to be looking for a job or career change right now in order to register?
A. Not at all. In fact, we encourage everyone to register with us, whether they're "looking" or not. It's not about "finding a job" ...it's about building and shaping your career path so that you get what you want. But we can't help you now or in the future if we don't know who you are or what you want.

Q. Is the program confidential? I wouldn't want my present employer to hear about this at all.
A: Absolutely. We contact no one without your express permission.

Q. I hear from recruiters all the time. Why do I need you?
A. You've answered your own question! While it may be somewhat flattering to have a number of recruiters calling you, many are "taking a shot in the dark" by presenting you with job opportunities that may or may not be anywhere near what you're looking for to satisfy your career goals. Our approach is clearly different: we identify what your needs are beforehand, then present you with opportunities that we know you will at least want to hear about and consider.
